So its no secret that we have a talented co-owner who just happens to be a fabulous photographer.  She recently has found her voice, and is now a must read! Today she talks about a set of headshots in a hurry, for future disney star hopefuls.  Check her out at cymbidiumphotography.com/blog/

Want to be inspired, take a look at our collaborative work through her lens and voice for the Touch a Life Foundation.  Know that we do what we do, to help these kids.  This is why we design. This is why we work hard, once you see these kids and get to know them you can’t help but fight for them.

If you are so inspired…we would both love for you to share some comments and subscribe to our feeds.  Happy Friday everyone!

Much love ,

Speaking and Teaching : a new addition to CYMBIDIUM

We love our jobs.  We love to design.  We love, love.  We love to share that love with others in the form of daily deliveries, and our events.  Rachael loves to capture love by telling a story through her images.

However, recently a new love has come our way.  Speaking.  While this might not come as a shock to those who know us best, we have been blessed with several opportunities lately to speak publicly about our chosen professions, and how we have arrived where we are today.  For those of you, who have ever been in this type of situation, voluntarily or involuntarily you know how exciting and terrifying this situation can be.  Will they laugh at me? Will I have something meaningful to say that will inspire or encourage? Will I convey clearly what I want to say?  And in my recent case…answering the question…what have I done to Change the World?

Rachael and I both attended Abilene Christian University, in Abilene, Texas.  I graduated from the College of Business there.  Over the course of my time there students were challenged to “Change the World”.  While in school, that seemed a daunting and unrealistic.

HOWEVER, it has been my experience that changing the world is possible if you open your self up to failure, and the possibility of actually making a difference.  That getting over yourself, and making small efforts/choices actually does change the world, one small move at a time.

Rachael and I were asked to speak in the classes of the COBA, where we once sat.  Rachael had a photo shoot that day, so she was unable to make it.  My crutch of familiarity, and fabulous photos was not going to be in attendance, making it that much more intimidating!  I was extremely surprised with the results of my day! If you ever find yourself in a creative slump, or needing to be inspired, or encouraged, step into a room full of soon to be college graduates.  They gave me more than I could ever give them, and their attentiveness, and questions amazed me.  Six years ago I was sitting where they were.  I definitely do not recollect being that aware or attentive.  It was in those moments, that I decided to make yet another move in our business.

If you know our company well, you know that we have always wanted to create an enviornment in which we could give back , and teach the skills that we have honed and refined from our experiences.  Rachael and I were bothed blessed by several abroad excursions that led us to the creation of CYMBIDIUM.  And now we believe it is time to give some of that back, and inspire others through education.

We have done this in two ways.  First, with the creation of WED.  Secondly, by a new educational concept that will be launched this fall.  This is our small way of trying to educate and share our secrets that make for a unique experience that we call CYMBIDIUM

Want to join the cause of inspiration through education?! You can help in the following ways: Do you know brides on a budget, or brides who are design minded? Let them know about our product WED.  Do you know someone who is extremely talented, who either wants to learn more about the event design world, or wants a little insight into starting their own event planning, floral design, or event services company? Send their contact information to info@cymbidiumflowers.com, with the subject line : I want to know more! , so that we can let them know about our upcoming educational concept announcement for the fall.

While at ACU,  I was pleased to see and announce our latest hire, Cameron, and brag on our mangager Keely (both also a graduates of the alma matter).

Cameron has been an absolute joy to have arroundthe office; determined, and fresh.  Again, Inspiring.  To give you an idea, she worked over 60 hours her first week, which included but was not limited to : organizing a warehouse, working on a rather large wedding, and being thrown in to the deep end with clients to see if she could swim, all while being positive and without complaining ,or asking  a lot of unnecessary questions; but rather learning by actually doing something.  (Read: a creative director and managers God send).

Wishing you a happy week, full of inspiration and determination to change the world, even if it is just one flower or step at a time!

Ps> Don’t forget Fathers Day is this weekend! Fathers love Flowers too!!! Below is our pick from our signature collection for a tasteful token of love and appreciation this Fathers Day!

Prom 2009

When the call came in we couldn’t have been more excited! The challenge: plan the ultimate prom experience that would appeal to the students, not scare the staff, and be within budget.  Oh, and present ideas to some of the coolest young adults that attend the academy, and wow them with our creativity and style .  NO PRESSURE!  I arrived at McKinney Christian Academy not knowing what to expect, and hoping that I still had an ounce of cool left, that would appeal to high school level students.  Seriously, it was the most fun and inspirational collaboration experiences I have had in a long time! The students were eager to help design, and trusted my instincts which was nice! We had a series of two collab meetings , at which it was decided that they would be let in on the major details, but a couple of secrets would be kept between Mrs. McAnally and I to ramp up the excitement of the event!

* EVENT TIP * Any time there is a planned unexpected element that occurs throughout the event experience it elevates the mood of the event!!! Even letting the client know that you plan to surprise them, actually gives them a reason to talk and hype up the event.  In this case read: High school words spread fast and increase prom attendance to see what CYMBIDIUM will show up with.  Take a look at the inspiration board….

The night arrived for the big day, and I think the CYMBIDIUM team was more excited than the students were! While assembling the final touches on centerpieces, linens, and our secrets we all compared prom stories, and agreed that we wished our prom would have been as cool as the one that we were about to install.  The event particulars are below…enjoy reminiscing on your own prom! PS. one of the big secrets was at 11:00, when the music was perfect…waiters passed glow in the dark treats including blinky rings, necklaces, and bracelets! soooo much fun.  Love these pics??? Easter is one of CYMBIDIUM’S favorite holidays.  Our name sake flower, the CYMBIDIUM orchid was worn by our Granny every Easter, a gorgeous corsage given to her by either her loving husband, Alvie, or one of us Grandkids.  The bigger the better!!! We still continue the tradition to this day by designing a corsage for our mother to wear to Church! I think this bloom would be the perfect addition to my Easter dress.

CYMBIDIUM ORCHID for a perfect Easter Corsage

We also love Easter baskets, and who could resist these gourmet chocolate bunnies, and eggs by NOKA Chocolate. CYMBIDIUM is a long time fan of both the chocolate and owners Noah and Katrina. We both have an affinity for  luxurious / fantastic packaging.  I will be giving these to all my VIP’s (very important peeps :) ) on Sunday!!! Check out their website, and place your order today for both blooms and bunnies!
